Wow! I don't watch dramas or movies usually but I somehow saw a few clips of this 3 weeks ago and got so hooked that I had to watch all the eps. I found the links to your post on a forum and wow! Thank you for the insights.. There was so much I didn't catch while watching the show, that your posts showed me. Like Qi Yan taking out blood soaked fabric as a reminder part.. I just thought he wanted to see it because he was sad and I didn't understand the significance.. Thank you for the amazing posts! ❤️
Do you think Qi yan really died? I mean all the emotions and conversations between him and Yu'er did seem genuine as if he was on deathbed.. But the last scene where Yu'er turns around and smiles big, it's making me doubt if they hinted that it was all a plan and Qi Yan managed to fake his death to live like a commoner (he did say earlier that he can finally live together with Yu'er, before the lantern festival scene).. But then all the poison and crying, was it all fake? I am so confused.. What do you think? 😅
Cheng Yi also made a weibo post saying he hopes Qi Yan has an easier life in next life.. 😭 I don't know what to make of it......
There are good reasons to think that Qi Yan faked his own death. 1) The fact that he told Yu'er that they can finally be together. It seemed that it was his intention all along to test Prince Guang and then hand off the throne before taking leave and living the kind of life he's always wanted. 2) He keeps telling Yu'er all throughout the drama that he wanted her to live a carefree life roaming the country and enjoying all kinds of food.
3) If he did die and stayed dead, I don't understand why the show would give us that scene at the end with Yu'er looking at someone and breaking into a smile without identifying the individual. It's totally unnecessary. The ambiguity is meant to point to someone surprising. 4) We also know that Qi Yan was involved in conversations with the divine healer about the medication he was currently taking that was taking a toll on his body. So it is entirely possible that they hatched a plot to fake his illness and eventual death. It was a dangerous gamble that probably paid off.
I couldn’t agree more with you! It was a long run but it was worth it.
It sure was.
It didn't feel especially long because we didn't have to wait that long for all the episodes to drop. Thankfully! :D
Thanks for following my Stand By Me posts. Much appreciated.
Thank you for these amazing drama reviews/insights. I’ll be following you in many more! :D
