Quick comments 'cos gotta go back to work and real life. Everything i say this is the best episode of the season, HP throws up a better episode. The table tennis matches were a hoot (and the Nuclear Team is a cameo of 2 actual Korean table tennis Olympian medallists). I loved how this episode highlighted another 2 sets of unsung heros - the last time they highlight the anaesthesiologist, this time the ER team and the nurses. Medicine is a team sport, no one can drop the ball. Isn't it appropriate (and great timing) that the table tennis tournament shown during Olympics season also reminds us that when the entire team wins, the patients win too?

I'm glad Bidulgi meeting finally happpend and Junwan knows Iksun lied at the breakup. I could almost hear Ikjun ruminating in his mind if he should engineer the kids to meet so they can just sort this out instead of being separately miserable.

Gom-Gom moment ice cream was cute. Short but cute. And I love the fact that Ikjun and Jeongwon both witnessed that look on Seokhyung's face.

Iksong rain moment was beautiful even if it was also short. I must have rewinded three times at least, to see who let go of the hands first and the look on each of their faces. They were both aware. And I'm glad we finally saw Songhwa's side of the story in 1999. Poor baby. But I see good things for this ship. It will happen. :)

Phew. I looked back at what I just wrote - really, what is there not to like??!

I'm looking forward to Ep 10, waiting with popcorns for Gyeoul's backstory to be finally revealed.

Thank you! I really enjoyed this episode as well. We have two ER doctors in the family and I have seen tidbits of how hard that career can be; today's episode made me even prouder of them. Too bad they are not into K Dramas, but I may try again to get them to watch at least Ep9. I also loved YJM's cameo. As amazing as he was being the villain in Itaewon Class, I much more appreciate seeing him as this eccentric but very patient-centered gyuosonim. But of course now I am wondering if they'd ever bring in the role of GU's father and if so, who would play him.

I was holding my breath during the Junwan and Iksun scenes. They were both excellent actors and really executed all the minute expressions / emotions fitting for those moments. I agree it is such a relief that now Junwan finally knows about the illness and the fact that there was no one else. I am all good with whatever happens next. Like what you said, I also think he would jump at any shots of reconciliation. But I hope that it would not be just a restart of the relationship while shuffling all the things happened a year ago under the broad umbrella of her illness as the cause. How things have evolved since the breakup were indeed greatly impacted by her illness, but the illness itself was definitely not the cause of their breakup. I look forward to seeing their next talk and I hope both would take up the courage and put down the pride, and really owned up to their share of responsibilities in what happened. I think it might be harder to Iksun since she continued to want to put up the front of "I am capable of taking care of myself" while forgetting two of the most important men in her life are doctors, who know better that your will by itself is not enough to guarantee your health. I am glad that Junwan called her out on her lies, and I hope she'll be able to really be open and vulnerable in their talk.

As little as the WG interaction we saw today ("little" because we might be able to call the exorcist scene as WG interacting via their host Lee Ikjun 🤣), I think there was definitely development. As much as I've always liked to see them together, I do think their together scenes were deliberately written out of this episode to highlight the tension, or the idea that GU is getting closer to a boiling point. Something about her interaction w/ MH in the GS room touched me and I just started crying. SHB demonstrated her ability to convey the deep sadness / guilt / shame all packaged within GU - who probably had grown up restraining her range of emotions / expressions as a protective mechanism - with her eyes, her demeanor, and her limited facial expression. She avoided seeing MH and JW in the face (or spending time at all) probably because she knew how they can see through her, and how she might breakdown before them. As frustrated / impatient as I felt, I have to respect the space JW and MH are giving her. I also think for GU, her priority now is to take care of her mom and in order to do that, she cannot fall apart right now. So while the wait is hard for the WG fans, I think the absence of their scenes in Ep9 will only help deliver what ShinLee has envision to the fullest impact.

And to your last point, one reason that I appreciate your blog is the straightforwardness of your comments. They are done with grace and you also explain your reasoning well. So please continue to get things off your chest without anxiety, because most of us here have benefited from that greatly.

Only three more episodes left and still so many threads to wrap up, but like what JW said about SeokHyeong, things can move really fast once the mind is ready, so I look forward to seeing how they wrap up the season, and potentially, the series, in the next few weeks.

I love your voice, and I am always eager to hear what you have to say about this show and other things. I am also very grateful that you give everyone an opportunity to share their perspectives on your private platform. I value other people's opinions because everyone has their own experience, and they might know something about life I don't. Debates and disputes, however, are not my cup of tea, and I fully understand why you don't want to engage in that. Thank you for writing anyway. It is very much appreciated.

I'm watching bits and pieces of ep. 9 right now, and man, that scene with Gyeo-ul, the phone call and the conversation with Min-ha, was copied from my life almost verbatim. Seeing Shin Hyun-been's face is like watching myself in the mirror, at a certain time. I know how she feels. I know why she can't talk about it. The war is still raging, and that trip home was only one of the many battles to come. And if last week's phone conversation with Jeong-won when she told him that she wouldn't be immediately available to him for some time struck me as unnecessary dramatic, given her four days' absence, now I can see that it was a fair warning. They may be in one place physically, but mentally, they are miles apart. I just hope that Min-ha's prophecy about "the last hurdle" will be fulfilled soon. The writer used "hurdle" several times in this script, for all major couples.

I suffered through 44 episodes of the C-drama called "The Ping Pong Life" twice. :) In comparison, the hospital ping-pong tournament is giving me life. :)

Loved the ER focus. Absolutely loved the bidulgi interaction and how soft and gentle Jun-wan is with Ik-sun.

Loved Ik-jun's matter of fact call to Jun-wan about his sister - I could feel that he accepted this relationship despite prior misgivings.

Loved-loved the love-struck Seok-hyeong and how the resident expert Jeong-won assessed the likelihood of the GomGom relationship.

Loved my curly-haired, devastatingly pretty and broken-hearted 99s' Song-hwa.

Loved how the writer bookended the episode with two scenes we've already seen some time before but shown from "the other side".

Actually, I was going to complain about this episode at length. Hmm. Why didn't it happen?

Thank you for your thoughts as always! The bashing of Hospital Playlist continues and vehement opposition to Junwan & Iksun's reunion too. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but with those who are repeatedly hating on the show, I am scratching my head as to why they still continue to watch it? Funnily they get even more angry when others tell them (nicely and respectfully no less) to drop it if they continue to find it boring...

I could not stop laughing and replaying the table tennis scenes. It was so silly and full of intense build up only to have emergency calls to attend to or in the case of the orthopedics doctor, a pregnant wife going into labour. I missed Dr Lee Ji Hoon and was so happy to see him team up with Ikjun in both the game and comedic antics. I'm sure they're just as silly during working hours and can't imagine how Gyeoul manages to keep a straight face around them.

So happy we got to see Dr Bong in action both as a doctor and a mentor! I felt the resident, Jae Min's disappointment with not having his work recognised. I was actually waiting for Changmin to inform the patient that it was a joint effort with many other departments but alas we don't get what we always want heh. Though I guess if we really had to nitpick, I think we should also remember to thank the paramedics as well since they are truly the first contact with the patient. Seeing Dr Bong and team working to stabilise the patient reminded me of the documentaries I've watched with regards to Emergency & Trauma Medicine. It is amazing to see them working under high pressure and extremely tight timeline, observing and making split second decisions that determines someone's chances of survival.

I was just about to tear my hair out when Iksun had to go to the ER and cancel her meet up with Junwan. Thank the high heavens for our cupid Ikjun. Like you said, the both of them have so much to say to each other that whether or not they eventually choose to rekindle their relationship is secondary at this point.

Always so happy to see the interactions between friends be it Jongsu x Rosa or the lacking 5. But what truly got me was Minha's words to Gyeoul. The offer of a listening ear and support is what Jeongwon has said to Gyeoul too but Minha's opening words to Gyeoul that she has done well and things will only get better was a great touch. That made me tear and I felt that Gyeoul really needed those words too. Coming from a fellow female doctor makes the words hold so much more weight since there is a shared understanding of the difficulties faced in both personal and work life. I truly wish for Gyeoul to finally let go of her hesitations and insecurities and openly receive all the love and support from the people around her, without feeling sorry. It breaks my heart to see her apologising for things she shouldn't have to. That said, I'm waiting with fingers crossed that we finally get the full story in ep 10. Jeongwon may still be maintaining his patient approach but I'm truly on edge 😂 It was interesting to see Jeongwon use the same words in this episode when asking Seokhyung if he was OK and if Seokhyung was facing any difficulties. The difference to me is that Seokhyung has always answered truthfully whenever prompted since season 1 so the line of questioning works in his case. After seeing that scene between Jeongwon and Seokhyung... It just reinforces my thoughts that Jeongwon should really drop the generic "are you ok, oh you're ok that's great" lines with Gyeoul. It works for some but not all. The choice to not show any further Wintergarden scenes besides that phone call in ep 9 really works to build up the tension which I hope we get some release from in ep 10. I'm just about ready to smack Jeongwon 😂😂😂

I like that junwan is being straightforward for what he wants to resolve things that are unfinished between him and iksun, right away after he found out that iksun was in korea all this time. And i like the first thing he did in emergency room, when he's about to see iksun was to check out her medical record, that's how he knew about iksun's condition, he is a doctor anyway, and he knew there's something possibly wrong when someone is rushed to the emergency.

Again thanks to ikjun who made the opportunity for them to reunite again. Ikjun wasn't just playing cupid, but he's the type of person who cannot stand to see people around him suffer or sad, so he had to do something for them. Although i kind of feel the he's still upset that they're not telling about their relationship before. But ikjun is being ikjun, the man with a big heart.

About WG, i can feel the frustration on jeongwon side regarding gyeoul's closedness. He did asked multiple times to her about her mother condition and herself, showing how much he concerns and worries about her problem. But still gyeoul needs more time to figure out and settle things by her own. Not only that she can't tell to her boyfriend, she can't tell to her bestfriend either. Maybe she thinks there's no need involving others outside the family yet. It's gyeoul things, i think. But i'm happy that jeongwon and minha are assuring her that they are there for her anytime she needs them.

Ikjun - songhwa scene in this episode are their sweetest moment in the rain. Now in this season they always have moment of them two together. They slowly make their opportunity to be with their long last love.

I really like they highlight the nurses because as Jeongwon said they spend more time with patients than doctors. They are the one who have to deal with patients and guardians (and sometimes doctors) needs with limited time to give to each patient. I don't think a lot of people understand being a nurse require a lot of competence (one is diplomacy...) not everyone could do it.

I always thought the weak point in Bidulgi storyline is the lack of Iksun POV so i'm really glad they give us more of her perspective. I really feel Iksun having to go to the hospital and to cancelled her appointment with Junwan is metaphor of her life : she have dreams and projects and her illness put a brutal end to it. This episode made me rethink the reasons why she wanted to keep Junwan in the dark about her health. She complains about Ikjun and her parents telling her to be careful. Since it's condition she has since childhood maybe she felt overprotected and the "ill child" of the family. Maybe she didn't want to be the "ill girlfriend" for Junwan. I could be totally wrong about this maybe it's all in my mind. But i still think breaking up with Juwan was really stupid.

For WG i understand that the current situation is frustrating with Gyeoul not opening up and Jeongwon not being more "aggressive" but i remember Songhwa advice to Seonbin (with her relationship with Seokmin) to "wait and do nothing, something may happen...". Songhwa also said with her ex when there was problem she kept asking questions and trying to fix it but it never workout . So Jeongwon maybe is right and an aggressive attitude when Gyeoul's "head is all over the place" could have a negative outcome. The show seems to give a great importance to timing and to wait "because something unexpected might come up" (Jongsu gave the same advice to Rosa in season 1 for instance).

Time certainly matters for Iksong i really love their story i think it's an unusual "friends to lovers".

And thank you for this phrase about Songhwa :

"She shouldn’t do it out of feeling the pressure, obligation or even out of gratitude. That’s the absurdity about throwing around the word “deserve”. She will cross that bridge when she’s ready. "

I couldn't agree more. I'm uncomfortable with some comments regarding Songhwa and i don't see any arguments which convince me Songhwa did anything wrong.

I think I am smitten with HP and so don't see any major flaws to complain :) Even if not smitten, I have family and friends who watch it without any bias, still find it beautiful! Loved how different departments were shown the focus light! Tugged at my heart at the NICU nurses as my own newborn was in the NICU for a week and the nurses were her primary caregivers as I was dealing with complications of my own.

And Gwang-hyun's words a reminder for all of us to to do our jobs sincerely without really looking for explicit appreciations. How wonderful was that. To have the bigger intent in mind, in this case the patient's well being.

For Songhwa - She shouldn’t do it out of feeling the pressure, obligation or even out of gratitude. Beautifully said.

When they said last week Ik-jun books tickets for Junwan, I think many of guessed something would be playing out to bring bidulgi together.

I guess your prediction of 4 weddings may not be far fetched :))
