Whoa, that description about LBY is just so on point. I love him and if ever I can give him my heart or can marry him I will (crazy me) coz NN is still in her rebellious age/time but as you say our general is a monogamist and his heart only belongs to NN and if not NN he would rather just be single all his life. I need a LBY in my life.

Ohhh, I love this drama. This makes my week so looking forward. Thanks to your review.

I'm back!

I worry for Shao Shang too as she thinks she knows love in the sense that it is a comfortable feeling, as if you are with your bosom buddy - and that's all I see between her and Luo Yao.

I think that Luo Yao sees SS as the embodiment of what he cannot be - outspoken, brave, taking charge (sounds like the characteristics of a general's wife!) and he has projected what he hopes he can be to her. I don't think much will change after the wedding (if you have seen his relatives). At most, the twinkle that is SS will fade and become lifeless.

LBY - he's mature, though young in years (actually, how old is he!) and he has been through a LOT. In life, timing is everything and who knew SS would accept someone's proposal so quickly. He has so much emotion pent up inside him and literally, the only times he smiles is somehow linked to SS.

I have caught up to Ep 18 and am eager to hear your thoughts about the upcoming arcs.

Thanks for the recco, I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise, and I'm enjoying it, somehow it's very entertaining. I'm just horrified up to this point at N's mother. Apart from the old style pedagogy "spare the rod...." I don't quite get her behaviour even though we keep getting hints that she's so wonderful and kind, haven't seen any of that yet, she's even awful to her husband. Also for me the scene where Niaoniao is doing that rousing scene was embarrassing. Suddenly this greenhorn teenager does a "Churchill" and the men with bloody amputated limbs, the woman who has been gang raped, the dying child all gaze at her in wonder, drink their herbs and the angels sing. Silly beyond words, but that's the nature of drama I guess. Also I'm glad that Captain Ling has stopped his robotic stare onto the horizon which he did for the first few eps. He now seems more normal. Despite these silly things it's keeping me watching. Thank you.

Yes good point. These dramas would not be palatable if they depicted war or any trauma events with accuracy. And it's all escapism and entertainment, plus some informative stuff sometimes. I even was agog when N. returns from her recent experience of war, and the dad virtually says "hello welcome back, gosh that must have been a bit tough...bla bla'. With regard to N.'s mother, she's insanely unpleasant. Actually her behaviour is covert abusive, ie, being kind and generous to N's cousin, right in front of her, but icing out N. Still in the context of the drama, I get what you are saying. Her life now with the brothers etc. seems better, but what is indicated about her early life seems horrible, although that too is glossed over. I'm hanging in because it's really entertaining, and I want to see which guy she ends up with. Thanks for the review.
