Shaoshang is young after all. She just turned 15 and LBY is nearing his 30 if I'm not mistaken; revealed in previous eps. So, CSS really needs supervision from LBY because he is the mature one and had rich experienced in the palace, its politics, and the harem. I was a little bit upset with LBY in the previous eps when he didn't try to explain what is this vague situation in the palace that will harm her. CSS is kind hearted and has a natural curiousity in all things, if she aint guided properly she will be doomed inside the palace. Hence, aside from being a loving husband, the second role of LBY to her is being her mentor. Coz, I believe and see in her personality all through the previous eps that she is very smart and when she learns, she is applying it to daily situations. That's what her mother is lacking, mentoring her in a good way. Further, in the latest eps, as expected from a smart person as well LBY learns how to motivate CSS and how to coax her. Hence, their relationship becomes better and becomes more open. Surely, they will be the best pair in the palace politics. I hope next week eps about harming CSS again will be more brutal after effect to her opponents. I thought Jitong is more humble and decent than any other palace maids in the palace. How dare her to covet Zisheng. Arghhh, I am so angry especially to the maid of Jitong. 🤨😁

LOL. It’s so rare to see that “behind every great woman is a great man” but in this case, CAN CONFIRM.

Seriously, thank goodness for the best kind of friend a girl could ask for in QiQi. It was QiQi who first stepped in during the engagement party when Niaoniao was almost slapped. It was ALSO QiQi who pointed out how unfair Niaoniao was being when she weighed the things Zisheng did for her, against what negated the good. Yes, the dancing to her tune!

OMG, I didn’t even realize this about the drama until you pointed this out “The show is certainly doing its bit to promote lifelong monogamy which hasn’t been the norm for much of history until those pesky Christians came along.” They really do, do this.

Finally, I loved this line you wrote with your thoughts, “by virtue of being with an open-minded fellow like him with immense resources at his fingertips, the sky’s the absolute limit in terms of exploring her interests and talents.”

Thank you again for another lovely post. Can’t wait to read your ramblings for 35-36! :)

Thank you again for your lovely musings. It's became a great pleasure watching some episodes and then reading your thoughts. I thoroughly enjoy them.

You're spot on regarding the Crown Prince, those in a position of power should be firm and resolute, something which he clearly is not. I wonder what his consort's agenda is... so far we are not given clues to her personality, but in my mind something is definetely off. This idea of bad rulers, or more precisely irresolute rulers, made me think of Hamlet and how he would have been a terrible King. After reading so many things about the play, I have never thought about this, though I’m sure many have written about it.

Now as for the engagement party and all the high drama involving high ranking princesses and the like, I always think that these older women, which are always so quick to throw around their seniority, were once the Young princesses which were never rebuked or admonished. Those selfish, entitled and frivolous Young princesses grow up and become more entitled and willful. I was almost expecting a full tantrum from Princess Ruyang.
